SSC CHSL Selection Process

SSC (Staff Selection Commission’s) conducted CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) (10+2) Examination for the posts of LDC (Lower Divisional Clerk) / JSA (Junior Secretariat Assistant), PA (Postal Assistant) / SA (Sorting Assistant) and DEO (Data Entry Operator). Exam Selection Process details are given below in this Page.
Selection Process: The Examination will consist of 3 stages.
1. CBT (Computer Based Test) (Tier-I)-(Objective Type)
2. Descriptive Paper (Tier-II)
3. Skill Test / Typing Test (Tier-III)
  • Typing Test for LDC/ JSA & PA/ SA
  • Skill Test for Data Entry Operator (DEO)

Written Examination: The Paper will consist of Obj. Type- Multiple choice questions only. The questions will be set both in Hindi and English for Part-II, III and IV.
1. CBT (Computer Based Test / Examination) (Tier-I): CBT (Tier-I) examination is an objective type test divided in 4 sections, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill), English Language (Basic Knowledge) and General Awareness. Total marks for SSC CHSL 2019 Tier-I exam is 200 and there is negative marking of .50 marks for each and every wrong answer. Candidates qualifying the Tier-I exam securing the qualifying marks will be selected for the Tier-II examination.
2. Tier-II (Descriptive Paper): Tier-II Paper / Exam will be a descriptive Paper of 100 Marks in Pen & Paper Mode in the duration of the paper would be for 1 hour. The Paper would comprise writing of an Essay of 200 – 250 words and Application / Letter of approx. 150-200 words. The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II would be 33% (33 percent).

3. Tier III (Typing / Skill Test):
a. Skill Test for Data Entry Operator: Only those candidates who qualify in the CBT (Computer Based Test) (Tier-I) & Descriptive Paper (Tier-II) and secure at least the minimum qualifying marks as may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion, will be eligible to attain the Skill Test. The ‘Data Entry Speed’ Skill Test would be of qualifying nature {Data Entry Speed of 8000 (eight thousand) Key Depressions per hour on Computer}. Candidates allowed to take this test, will have to qualify or pass the test at the prescribed speed on Computer, to be provided by the Commission or agency fixed or set up by commission to conduct such Skill Test at the centre so notified. Only such candidates / aspirants who qualify in the Skill Test at a speed of not less than 8000 key depressions per hour will be eligible for being recommended for appointment as per their position in the merit list.
Note-I: Only those aspirants who secure at least the minimum qualifying marks in the written exam, as may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion, will be called for further skill test. The Commission may also at its discretion, fix qualifying marks in each and every component of the written exam.
b. Typing Test for LDC/ JSA and PA / SA: Typing Test will be conducted only for those aspirants / candidates who qualify in the CBT (Computer Based Test) (Tier-I) and Descriptive Paper (Tier-II). Such Typing Test will be conducted in Hindi and English. Typing Test will qualifying in nature. It will be administered on the Computer that is provided by the Commission or any other agency authorized by the Commission. The speed will be adjudged or checked on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes.
Note-I: 35 words per minute and 30 words per minute correspond to 10500 key depressions per hour / 9000 key depressions per hour respectively.
Note-II: Only those candidates / Aspirants who secure at least the minimum qualifying marks in the CBT (Computer Based Test) (Tier-I) and Descriptive Paper (Tier-II), as may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion, will be called for Typing Test. The Commission may also, at its discretion, fix the minimum qualifying marks in each component of the written exam.

Final Allotment:

The final merit of passed candidates / aspirants will be determined on the basis of total score obtained by them in Tier I & Tier II examination. Candidates will be allotted to the various departments for the post of PA (Postal Assistant) / SA (Sorting Assistants), DEO (Data Entry Operators), LDC (Lower Divisional Clerks) and Court Clerks on the basis of their merit and preference of post.
Resolution of Tie Cases: Tie cases will be solved by applying 1 after another, as applicable till the Tie is resolved.
  • Total Marks in Tier I + Tier II.
  • Total marks of Tier II Exam.
  • Total marks of Tier-I Exam.
  • DOB (Date of birth), with older candidates placed higher.
  • Alphabetical order in which the first names of the candidates appear.
