SSC CHSL Exam Pattern Details
SSC (Staff Selection Commission’s) conducted CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) (10+2) Examination for the posts of LDC (Lower Divisional Clerk) / JSA (Junior Secretariat Assistant), PA (Postal Assistant) / SA (Sorting Assistant) and DEO (Data Entry Operator). Exam Pattern Details are given below in this page.
Scheme of Examination: The exam will consist of 3 stages. The following Tiers are:
1. CBT (Computer Based Test) (Tier-I)-(Objective Type)
2. Descriptive Paper (Tier-II)
3. Skill Test / Typing Test (Tier-III)
- Typing Test for LDC/ JSA & PA/ SA
- Skill Test for Data Entry Operator (DEO)
Written Examination: The Paper will consist of Obj. Type- Multiple choice questions only. The questions will be set both in Hindi and English for Part-II, III and IV.

Note-I: There will be negative marking of .50 marks for each and every wrong answer. Candidates are advised to keep this in mind while answering the questions.
2. Tier-II (Descriptive Paper):
Tier-II Paper will be descriptive Paper of 100 Marks in Pen & Paper Mode in the duration of the paper would be for 1 hour. The Paper would comprise writing of an Essay of 200-250 words & Letter / Application of approx. 150-200 words. The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II would be 33 percent.
3. Tier III (Skill Test / Typing Test):
a. Skill Test for DEO (Data Entry Operator): The Speed of 8000 key depressions Per hour on Computer will Only be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words key depressions as per the given passage and the duration of the said Test will be of 15 (Fifteen) minutes and printed matter in English containing about 2000-2200 strokes / key depressions would be given to each and every candidate who would enter the same in the Computer. For the post of DEO (Data Entry Operator) in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C and AG): The speed of 15000 key depressions per hour on Computer will be adjudged mainly on the basis of the correct entry of words / key depressions as per the given passage. The duration of the Test will be of 15 (Fifteen) minutes and printed matter in English containing about 3700-4000 key depressions would be given to each and every aspirants and candidate who would enter the same in the Computer.
Note-I: Only those candidates / Aspirants who secure at least the minimum qualifying marks in the written exam, as may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion, will be called for skill test. The Commission may also at its discretion, fix qualifying marks in each component of the written exam.
b. Typing Test for LDC/ JSA and PA/ SA: Typing Test will be conducted only for those candidates / aspirants who qualify in the Written Exam. Such Typing Test will be conducted in Hindi or English and candidates while applying for the Exam, will have to indicate his/her choice for Skill Test Medium in the Application Form.
- Candidate’s selecting for English medium should have typing speed of 35 WPM (Words Per Minute) and those opting for Hindi medium should have typing speed of 30 WPM (Words per minute).
- The speed will be adjudged on the basis of accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes. Visually Handicapped candidates / Aspirants (with 40% disability and above) will be allowed 30 minutes.
Note-I: 35 words per minute and 30 words per minute correspond to 10500 key depressions per hour / 9000 key depressions per hour respectively.
Note-II: Only those candidates / Aspirants who secure at least the minimum qualifying marks in the CBT (Computer Based Test) (Tier-I) and Descriptive Paper (Tier-II), as may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion, will be called for Typing Test. The Commission may also, at its discretion, fix the minimum qualifying marks in each component of the written exam.
